Seattle Man Found Not Guilty in Pregnant Woman’s Fatal Shooting

A car stopped at a red light in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood turned deadly in a flash. An eight-month pregnant woman was shot inside her vehicle during a random attack.

The woman died and her husband was wounded, but the shooter’s fate took an unexpected legal turn.

Deadly Shots at a Red Light

On June 13, 2023, Cordell Maurice Goosby approached a vehicle stopped at a red light in Belltown. He fired multiple shots into the car carrying 34-year-old Eina Kwon and her husband, 37-year-old Sung Kwon.

Eina, eight months pregnant, died from her injuries. Sung survived the attack despite being seriously wounded.

Surrender and Charges

After the shooting, Goosby surrendered to police and confessed, saying, “I did it, I did it.”

He was charged with first-degree murder for Eina’s death and first-degree attempted murder for Sung’s injuries. The firearm used had been stolen two years earlier during a burglary in Lakewood, Washington.

Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity

On March 20, 2026, the King County court found Goosby not guilty by reason of insanity in connection with the shooting.

This verdict ended the criminal case against him despite the severity of his actions. Medical records were reviewed to consider charges for the unborn child, but Washington law requires a victim to be born alive for homicide charges to apply.

Legal Closure on a Tragic Night

Goosby’s past included felony convictions for weapons and drug offenses in Illinois. Still, this case closed with the insanity ruling rather than a conviction.

The ruling marks a final chapter in one of Seattle’s most heartbreaking shootings — where loss met complex legal limits.
